OpenFACILIS is an open-source web application development environment and process management system, developed especially for municipal and county government agency use. This tool is designed to allow semi-technical staff to create sophisticated web applications without having to spend hundreds of hours developing the framework needed to support a real-world application.

Some of the features incorporated into OpenFACILIS include:

• Multi-tier application design
• Web services for communication between internal and external servers
• AJAX-based screen designer
• Program source code is available to registered users, yet data remains private

This project is designed as a collaborative effort by developers and users who want to take control of their internal applications and not have to rely on expensive vendors for new features and "bug" fixes. Using OpenFACILIS as the development environment and placing the applications in the repository for other users and developers to help maintain, opens up a wide array of talent for the creation and maintenance of web applications.
